Wheel hub made of different materials
Lightweight design in the chassis continues to be an important topic. And significant lightweighting success has been achieved
by optimizing wheel hub geometries in the past. Further progress can also be made with material optimizations.
While steel will continue to be required for torque transmission, for providing fastener threads and for sustaining bending torque,
aluminium can be used for wheel rim centering and supporting the brake disk. These two materials are joined here by means of a
forging process, with the steel and aluminum forming a positive material joint.
